Hello; Christmas greetings to you (as I write this, it’s the sixth day of it), and may there be something giving you hope for 2025.
It’s a while since I posted on here, so I wanted to thank you again for your interest in my work on the whole Bowie-and-God thing, and also to welcome the new subscribers who have signed up in the past few months. In case you haven’t read my previous post, my quietness on here is due to the fact I’ve been writing a book about all this stuff. And goodness, it’s been enjoyable.
I submitted the manuscript to my lovely publishers, Bloomsbury, last month. There may be a fair bit more work to do on it, but the book in its current form runs to just over 80,000 words. By comparison, this Substack series runs to about 50,000 words. I’ve also had to be far more sparing with the use of lyrics in the book than on here. So that gives some indication of the amount of extra material I’ve gleaned from my research, and all the fascinating new stuff you can look forward to discovering when the book comes out. There are new details and anecdotes and facts, but there’s also a new sense of context, a new kind of backdrop; it dives deeper and soars higher. I’m really pretty sure you’ll enjoy it. It’s currently due to be published in spring 2026, and I’m excited about telling you more as the date approaches. It’s safe to say there’s far more to all this than I ever imagined.
It’s also become ever more apparent to me that this book would not exist without the support of you, my readers and subscribers. Whether you’ve written a book or article that’s inspired me (as some of you have), or left a comment under a post, or shared or liked one of my pieces, you’ve all played a part. Just like him, I’ve needed so many people. Thank you all.
Life is a gift.
Thank you, again,
Peter
It sounds as if it will be a fantastic book, with all the extra material. (Sheila aka SC Skillman)
